Welcome
2009 saw both the 1st XI and 2nd XI finish second in their division. While it was success for the 2nd XI who gained promotion to Division 2, it was disappointment for the 1st XI, whose points total in any other year would have comfortably won the Premier Division.
The 1st XI success was due in no great measure to their formidable bowling attack. A great impression was made by Dan Wheeldon in his first season with Sandiacre (including a century at A & B), Ryan Mcfadyean who bowled consistently fast all season and finished with a League Best of 9 for 16 against Ilkeston Rutland and arguably the best of all John Jordison. More consistency with the bat should see the 1st XI challenging to win the league in 2010,
2009 saw John Trueman retire as 1st XI captain after ten years in the role. Happily he will continue to play so new captain Rob Attwood can benefit from his experience on the field.
The 2nd XI gained promotion despite losing Captain Chris Attwood to a severe knee injury in the second game of the season. Gareth Goodall ably took over and when not attending weddings led a side stronger in bowling than batting to well deserved success and promotion.
The 3rd XI performed well despite numerous calls on their players from the other teams. Neil MacNamee continued to be an inspiring captain which was vital for the many young players who had their first games of competitive cricket with the thirds and will be for the many more who will get a chance this year. This season they will play their home matches at the Soldiers and Sailors ground, Breaston Lane, Risley where the club has spent long hours modernising the pavilion.
The Fourth XI who play in the Erewash Sunday League, continued to do well under the captaincy of John Woolley. After several successful seasons he hands over the reins to Peter Trembling.
The Juniors, always well coached and led, continued to perform ably at all levels. The fact that two of the U15’s played several games extremely successfully for the 1st XI demonstrates to all youngsters what is possible with talent and hard work. Undoubtedly in the next few years many more youngsters will be knocking on the door of the Ist XI
2009 witnessed the sad passing of Norman Attwood and Andy Poyser who will be sadly missed. Norman contributed much to the club especially when the pavilion was being constructed, while Andy was heavily involved both on and off the field and would happily turn his hand to whatever was asked of him.
